From my experience, this is 9 x out of 10, either an issue with the address buffer modules. Primarily where they connect to the plasma display; ribbon cables or around the copper contacts, and sometimes the SMDs on the Address Assemblies, or in the power connections, cables and/or ribbons that connect to the address, digital, Y, X or Power Supply Assemblies. First, do you know whether your Kuro has been voltage tweaked or reset? If you can pick up a used PSU for 65 then it's definitely worth giving it a shot. PSUs are easy to install. If it doesn't fix it you can easily resell it. Pioneer part number: AXY1203

Hello Daniel, this is either 1 of 2 things. 1. Usually caused by the PSU overheating and/or general failure to distribute the correct voltages to the phosphor/plasma guns/transistors in the screen that control the color (RGB) output for each pixel. Note: The centre of the PSU is situated in the rear directly behind the greenish area. Basically, the pixels are stuck in that particular shade of green in this particular area. The last time I saw something like this was many years ago on the 5th generation Pioneer Purevision Plasma TVs. They did a major callback because the PSUs were overheating and causing a green discoloration to the screen. Sometimes replacing the PSU fixes it. 2. Your situation is a perfect example of the inherent risks of buying a used Kuro that has not been professionally refurbished or even serviced. When original owners tamper with the voltage settings without knowing the consequences of their actions, resulting in magenta and green sparkles and other strange anomalies. However, your Kuro is still young; 16k hours only of 100k hours optimum brightness half-life. Now that you have put back the default voltage settings, we can consider giving your Kuro a little tweak. Hello Andy, TV PQ is quite subjective. A lot of Kuro owners also have an OLED. Some even have Sony Multi Scan Trinitron CRTs from the 90's to play vintage arcade games (In fact, one chap recently bought a 428xd Kuro from me just to play old arcade games). Basically, I would definitely keep the Kuro because you cannot get the same feel with new tech; it all looks too polished and shiny. To access the system log to check for errors and usage hours you will require a master remote control. It also allows you to do other things, like change the colour of the side mask bars from grey to black, access advance image test patterns for calibration purposes, and tweak the Vsus settings for deeper blacks (at users own risk!). Basically pre-colour calibration is the essential first steps of Calibrating a TV and to confirm that the TV is functioning properly to it's full capabilities; not the super bright reddish image you see in the showrooms. It's simple to do and all you require is a freely available disc AVSHD709 and some colour filters. Some companies sell it all in one package. Sounds like the fan is worn out, they are usually very quiet on the M01 media box. Give the box a vacuum and see if it improves the sound.

Welcome Stu, you are a man of my own heart. I have two KRL-46V side by side in the studio connected to my PC. You are right, they are seriously underrated. The RLS setting in the HOME menu can make the picture really pop! Regarding plasma Kuro, my main ones are the KRP-500M and a 6090H. I have them running through a DVDO iscan Duo processor, which takes the Kuro to another level. All the plasma Kuro need is a pre/colour calibration, which is quick and easy for anyone to do. No need for a full calibration unless you have a fixed lighting situation, like a dedicated movie room.

This is a classic comms error. The box isn't communicating with the screen properly. The problem is either the control cable, the main system comm board in the display, the media box main system board or a mix of all three. 9 times out of 10 it is the display and is relatively easy to repair depending on your electronics skills.
